Dosakaya Pappu
Dosakaya is a variety of cucumber and pappu means dal. It is easy to prepare and makes a good side-dish for rotis or naan or rice.

Ingredients
Dosakaya (1)
Tuvar Dal (100gms)
Tamarind (gooseberry size)
Green chillies (2)
Turmeric
Chilli powder
Salt
For seasoning
Cumin (Jeera) seeds
Mustard seeds
Fenugreek seeds
Asafoetida
Method
Peel the skin and cut the cucumber in half. Scoop out the fleshy centre with a knife or a spoon.
Precook the dal and the cucumber separately.
Add the tadka (splutter the seeds) and the chillies.
Add the dosokaya and stir on medium flame.
Add dal and mix.
Add one tablespoon of tamarind pulp.
Add chilli powder, turmeric and salt.
Simmer and garnish with coriander or any other gravy.
Alternatively, you can use tomatoes, sorakkai, any variety of greens, ridgegourd or bottlegourd.
