Green Gram Dal Payasam
Green Gram Dal Payasam is prepared during important festivals like Navaratri. It is considered to be an auspicious dish favoured by the Gods themselves.
Ingredients
Green gram 1/2 cup
Bengal gram 1 tsp
Jaggery 1 cup
Elaichi powder
Raisins
Cashews
Milk (optional)
Method1. Pressure cook the dal along with 1 1/2cups of water. Remove after two whistles.
2. Take a heavy bottomed vessel and pour the dal into it.
3. Mash the dal well and add water for the required consistency.
4. Dissolve jaggery in one cup of water and boil until the jaggery dissolves completely.
5. Strain the jaggery with a metal colander.
6. Add this jaggery extract to the mashed dal.
7. Boil well until you lose the raw smell of jaggery.
8. Simmer.
9. Before you remove from fire, add a generous quantity of pure ghee.
10. Fry cashews and raisins in ghee and add it to the payasam.
If the payasam is too sweet, you may dilute it by adding milk.
