Palak Koora (Spinach in Lentils Gravy, Andra style)

After much persuasion, Sri decided to make the spinach-dal gravy her mom used to make in Tirupati. This was also a tasty opportunity to learn a new recipe and boy, was it delicious!


Ingredients
Spinach (one large bunch)
Toovar Dal 1 cup
One red onion 1 cup
Two medium sized tomatoes 
Turmeric


Garnish
Onions
Tamarind paste 2 tbsps

Chilli powder
Green chillies
Mustard
Cumin
Asafoetida
Red chillies 2-3 pcsGarlic 1 pod
Salt
Cooking oil
Juice of lime


Method
1. Wash the dal and spinach.
2. Chop the onions, spinach, tomatoes and pressure cook it with the dal.
3. In a wok, heat oil and splutter the ingredients for garnish except the juice of lime and salt.
4. Dilute the tamarind and add the tamarind water. Let it cook until the raw smell evaporates.
5. Add the cooked spinach and dal to the garnish and cook on slow fire for ten minutes.
6. Add salt to taste.
7. Remove from the stove and garnish with juice of lime.


Serve hot with ghee rice.
