Bhelpuri
Ever since I rediscovered my love for Bhelpuri at the Madras Bhelpuri House in Tnagar, I was deeply committed to replicating this delicious snack at home. Unlike the usual bhelpuris that are laced with spicy and tangy sauces, the Madras Bhelpuri House adds more vegetables giving it an healthy twist. This tasty Indian snack is believed to have found its beginning in Gujarati cafes and the Mumbai streets and from there on, spread across different parts and customized to suit the local palate.
Ingredients
Spicy puffed rice 2 cups
Ompodi (sev) 2-3 tbsps
Kara boondi 2 tbsps
Grated carrot 1 cup
Finely diced cucumber 1 cup
Finely chopped onions 1/2 cup
Finely chopped tomato 1 cup
Finely chopped coriander 1 cup
Juice of half-a-lime
Method
In a bowl, add all the veggies.
Add the puffed rice and boondi to the veggie bowl.
Garnish with juice of lime.
Toss well.
Transfer to a serving bowl.
Garnish with ompodi (Sev) and coriander leaves.
Since I am already using pre-spiced puffed rice mix, I have not added any extra heat. But if you like, you can add a little chilli powder, juice of tamarind and green chilli paste to give that sweet and sour edge.
