RAW BANANA CURRY (VAZHAIKKAI PORIYAL)

The benefits of consuming raw banana is immense. Its rich in potassium, B6, and C. This is also a versatile vegetable which can be prepared in different ways such as chips, curry, or added to Avial.

In this recipe, we will enjoy a simple preparation of a raw banana curry.


INGREDIENTS

Raw banana 2-3 medium sized
Curry leaves, a few sprigs
Chopped green chillies
Coconut oil
Mustard seeds
Channa dal 1 tbsp
Turmeric 1 tsp
Chilli powder (optional)
Fresh grated coconut
Salt

HOW-TO

1. Chop the raw bananans into medium sized blocks with their skin.
2. Boil in hot water for 15-20 minutes until it becomes tender. Cool,  peel the skin, and cube them.
3. In a wok, add coconut oil.
4. Splutter mustard seeds.
5. Add curry leaves, green chillies, asafoetida, and channa dal. Roast to a golden brown.
6. Add the raw banana cubes and saute.
7. Add the spices. Chilli powder is optional since green chillies give the heat.
8. Sprinkle water and cover with a lid for 10 minutes.
9. Transfer the curry to a bowl. Garnish with grated coconut and serve with rice.
