Manglorian Chutney

While on a visit to Abu Dhabi a few years back, I met a wonderful Mangalorian couple who invited me to a dinner feast at their home. One of the recipes that I fell in love with was the chutney. It serves as an excellent accompaniment for idlis, dosas, and pongal.

Ingredients
Fresh grated coconut ½ cup
Finely chopped onion 1 cup
Green chillies 1-2 pcs
Raw mango grated 1/2 cup
Salt to taste
Cooking oil 1tsp
Mustard seeds 1 tsp
Bay Leaves

Method
1.    Mix all the ingredients in a grinder with little water. Viola, Chutney is read.
2.    In a small vessel, add the oil and splutter mustard seeds.
3.    Add the bay leaves also.
4.    Pour the seasoning into the chutney.
5.    Mix well and serve.

Add two pinches of asafoetida adn do the garnishing in coconutoil. This would enhanve the taste. Believe me - its my favourite too! :)
